An Idea in the Making : The Great Sugar-Free Challenge

With all of the research I've been doing on the negative effects of sugar on the body, I'm finding myself with the urge to take some action in my own life against my sugar addiction.
I'm thinking of going completely "sugar-free" for 30 days.
I've wrestled with sugar addiction and cravings for a long time. And it's a tough place to be. I know that I consume 2-3 sugary foods every day. It might be a bowl of ice cream, or a few pieces of chocolate, or maybe even something like a bowl of granola which happens to be loaded with sugar! But, regardless, there's some everyday. More so on weekends.
Now, I'm in good physical shape. I'm happy with my body weight, which hasn't changed over the past 2-3 years. So, getting off the white stuff would be mostly to address cravings and to practice self-control.
But as I think about it more, there's defintely another aspect to this challenge.
How to live sugar-free when sugar is everywhere? What does it take?
For example, I travel for work about twice every month. My business trips are usually out to Alberta or Saskatchewan for 2-3 days where I run software training courses for this company.
I've always found it VERY challenging to eat responsibly when I'm on the road.
Traveling and training all day can be exhausting. When you're exhausted and hungry, with limited options for dining, I always find myself eating something that doesn't fit my ideal diet - and something delectable from the dessert tray is always on the menu. I'm away from home...., how can I resist?
So travel is another aspect, but what about everyday products that we consume that aren't supposed to have sugar but do? Like Half and Half cream for coffee. Did you know they add sugar in the form of dextrose?
I'm definitely interested in trying to a 0-sugar diet for 30 days. But there's a timing challenge as well - I'm going on vacation in 2 weeks, which would co-incide with the sugar-free challenge. On vacation, I'll likely have limited access to a computer and I'd like to keep the blog updated with my progress. So perhaps this challenge will have to wait until I return mid-February.
What about you? Would you be willing to do a 30 day sugar-free challenge? Has anyone done this before? Do you already live sugar-free always on daily basis? Or are you addicted like many of us?...and what are you eating right now?
