The Controversy of the Law of Attraction
About a week ago, I started a discussion about the Law of Attraction at myplanet.planetcancer.org, a really cool cancer community website I'm a member of. Juanita and I have been doing a bit of thinking recently about the Law of Attraction and about trying to manifest some big "wants" into our lives and that sort of spurred me to ask others about their thoughts on the Law of Attraction, specifically with regards to illness and healing. Well, it created a lot of interest, some pretty intense discussion and some controversial views. Here's what I've concluded about the Law of Attraction.
- it's easy for a lot of people (some of whom don't have cancer, some who do) to suggest that we "Attracted" cancer to ourselves through negative thinking or beliefs
- many of us don't like that thought - it too laden with blame - we can't accept that we did it to ourselves - it hurts too much to think that way
- some have been accused of creating their own cancer, and that really pissed them off - and we're quick to support them shouting-down their accusers
- others accept that they "Attracted" cancer to themselves fully and completely - it seems to empower them to take control of it and change it
- those who do feel that they "Attracted" cancer are not pushing their view on other cancer survivors - they're very respective
- we all love the idea of positive thinking or related practices that are empowering like yoga, visualization and meditation
- these practices help us to feel like we have a part in the healing process and it's not just the drugs or the doctors doing it to us
- we're always trying to figure out why we got sick - I think it's human nature to be curious
One thing I've noticed about all of this is that the Law of Attraction seems to work great when it empowers you, but it hurts like hell when it disempowers you. Until next time, Michael
